I had another session with this and began to introduce some more detail as well as adjusting some values, in particular in the rear cliff. Hopefully the next session will see it finished but it will have to wait a day or two as domestic duties are about to intervene. It'll give some of the paint the chance to tack up. Anyone with suggestions as to ways to improve the image are welcome to make their comments.

Maybe just an adjustment on the tone of the rock standing alone?? (middle ground to the left) It seems to be the same tone as the bigger one on the right and in my mind at least, they are competing with each other. Maybe a depth of field, 'atmospheric perspective' consideration. Hope that is fair comment. Just my opinion.
Michelle - More than fair comment. I struggled with the idea of that particular rock being the main focus which I think it is or at least that is what I intend and rendering it as occupying a specific place in the distance. On reflection it will remain unnatural in its look as long as it has the current tonal aspect. It will be changed.
I look forward to seeing what you do with it. Compositionally I can see why you chose it - it is always a juggling act isn't it??
Thanks Michelle. I'd be interested to know if you think I've moved sufficiently in the direction you suggested.
i think you are fairly close on this one mick
maybe it is time to move to the next painting...
