This week we got away for a couple of days in the wonderful Lake District and even experienced a little decent weather. In between the pleasant walking and relaxation the odd splash of paint rested on paper. The image here is from a watercolour sketch done at one of the most popular spots in Keswick. The view is across Derwentwater from Friar's Crag.

Not bad at all Mick. Your touch is coming back, although I doubt you ever lost it.
Have you had my e-mails about the June/July Challenge. Awaiting response. Off to Italy for a week on Saturday - Riva at the top of Lake Garda. Surrounded by mountains.I hope to do a little painting.
Peter - Thanks, I'm starting to feel a little better about the painting. Yes I've got your frightening bunch of pictures. Fortunately I've sufficient time to try a few approaches before trying a finished piece.
ENjoy your trip, it's a fabulous part of the world to visit and paint and the food ain't bad either.
Hi Mick, good to see your painting here today from your trip to the lake district. The sky is really nice, water beautiful too. I can see you are more confident and have brought the painting together so well. That is a bonny green on the hills really looks like sunshine on them. I am wondering what colours you used. Have you tried olive green by windsor and newton?
Caroline - Thanks again. I'm glad the hills look as if the sun was out, it certainly was. The colours used were Raw Sienna, Cobalt Blue and a touch of Burnt Sienna. I started by laying down a wash of Raw Sienna, letting it dry then a green made with the RS and Cobalt Blue over the top. The BS was used to tone down the green for some differentiation in the colour.
I have W&N Olive Green in my box as well as Sap Green, although I'm trying to avoid using them and build up experience and confidence in mixing greens. The W&N Olive is a great base colour for foliage and can be mixed with a variety of colours to produce a lovely range of greens.
