Another of the monthly challenges that Peter Ward and myself share. This time I selected a landscape shot from a trip to New Zealand. The subject is difficult as it has strong contrast and interesting incursions by clouds. I'm sure I haven't got the value range right, maybe a little tentative in putting on the shadow.

You have put your own stamp on this Mick. Nice work.
Brian - Thanks a lot.
It is a very nice painting in its own right. Great colours. Don't worry about the reference photo Mick.
I love your interpretation - looks like the beginning of an adventure with the boat heading back between the rocks and the cloud rolling in.
That is splendid. I think it's one of the best watercolours I've seen from you Mick. I'll be posting mine soon. Basically it's just a semi-copy. I've had trouble getting a decent photographic representation but should post in the next two or three days.
Ray - Thanks. You are right the painting has to stand in its own right and the photograph should be just a jumping off point.
Dan - Thank you so much for your kind comment. I agree the boat does indicate the beginning of an adventure and that is very much my feeling about the day we sailed up the Sound.
Peter - Thanks for such a generous comment. It gives me the memory of a fabulous day on the water.
