St. Mark's Again

I'm still playing around with ways of making images that are looser than I used to and this weekend returned to a subject that I've looked at before. My sketchbook from Venice is a continuing source of inspiration for more paintings and this effort is a development of a piece I posted here some weeks ago.

St. Mark's Basilica - Watercolour on Rough paper 16" x 12"

You definitely accomplished a loose, wet style with this one and I like it - just enough detail but not too much.

Cool Mick! It's got a colourful ethereal look.
And the dog from last post is adorable.
Happy Painting.

Rhonda - Thanks a lot. I'm finding it difficult and interesting to loosen up my style and hopefully this is a step along the way.

Nora - Thanks for your support.

Mick, this is one of my favorite spaces and I must say, you have captured it very well. Majestic and mysterious at the same time. Love the colors. I am in the same phase of trying to loosen up my painting technique and admit it can be quite challenging. I especially love how you have painted the center/entrance of St. Marks and how everything seems to fade out from there.

Mick, you are using colour in such an interesting and innovative way. What has brought on this sudden spurt?

Sophia - Thanks for your kindness. You are correct, this is just the most magical of places, little wonder that so many of us attempt to capture something of its majesty.

Ray - You can put it down to a couple of things. First of all, reading some of my notes from time spent with CR and secondly becoming acquainted with the work of Jean Haines and this piece owes a lot to her treatment of the same subject.

Very nice looking piece Mick. I like the look of the looser approach you are working with. Good strong color work and also the muted fading colors work well. Very nice!

Ron - Thanks a lot. I'm enjoying my experimentation with colour and loose techniques a lot. I'm delighted that it meets with your approval.

Sharon Thanks so much. Pleased you enjoy it. I'm currently messing about with colour and various textural techniques in an attempt to make my stuff a little more interesting.
