Beating the Weather

Like most of us up here I'm tired of the poor weather as my opportunities to paint are usually falling on days when the conditions are anything but conducive to  painting outside. I'm afraid that I'm becoming a fair weather painter.

As I've reported here in the past I have an old school friend that I meet from time to time and we paint together. Another of these days arrived to be met with the usual torrential rain so paint inside it would be. Jed grabbed a few bits and pieces and created a grouping for a still life.

It's a while since I've done one of these and it made for a pleasurable couple of hours and kept the brushes wet. When we finished, the bottle contents seemed to evaporate.

Ha ha I like it - would have made for an interesting painting if you'd drunk the contents before you started eh?

Good composition Mick. Little more tone in the camera perhaps? Still nice painting regardless.

Nice rendering of a good camera. Nice still life even if it's not on paper:-) What is Not paper anyway?

Sharon - Next time we'll give that a try, that should loosen things up.

Ray - Thanks. As I look at it I have to agree, the camera is a little weak.

Caroline - That's very kind. I'm so pleased you enjoy these little diversions.

Konstantina - You need not worry about the contents of the bottle, they were fine. We both ended up feeling better about our efforts.

Linda - Cheers. The paper that we call 'Not' is what you call 'Cold Pressed". The NOT nomenclature just means 'Not Hot Pressed'. Sorry I keep forgetting that these posts get read across the English speaking world with all of its variations.

Great still life especially the camera. That looks a bit tricky to do. It would have given me grief I think... with or without the old vino. :-)

Laura - You are right, devising a way to render the camera without attempting a technical drawing and I'm not sure that I've succeeded very well. The more I look at it the more fault I find with it. Never mind the whole experience was fun.

A nice piece of work. Funnily enough I've been planning to start some more still lifes. Not because of the weather but because they are so good for shapes and colours, especially where fruit (and veg) is involved.

Peter - I think there's a certain discipline in doing still life. It gives the opportunity to hone drawing skills and work on shapes and colours.

This is great! Love the set-up and the colors and the play of shapes you've created in it. And the treat at the end = a drink or two with a friend :)
