Asparagus

It seems like I'm developing a serious shopping habit, browsing for suitable still life subjects on the fruit and vegetable stands. This trip I took a fancy to this bunch of asparagus spears which rapidly landed on my still life bench. I found the subject taxing in that there were a variety of greens to be mixed as well as balancing the pink tones. This is a subject that I could return to as I found it a good exercise in mixing and good preparation for moving outdoors and dealing with the range of greens that present we plein air painters with so many problems.

You made me laugh? Spending a lot of time at the supermarket shopping for subjects are you? Good for you. I love asparagus. They are a natural diuretic. They also have darker shadows. Richard SCHMID said I making shadows not dark enough is a common error. Be bold friend!

Hate say it Mick, the asparagus look like cutouts. You could integrate the shadows into the a'gus, maybe. Great colours though.

Linda - Pleased to amuse but it is becoming a bit of a habit. Agree shadows in this need some attention.

Ray - Aware that they look a bit 'cut out' probably to do with the way I painted it. I concentrated on trying to make the spears look right then painted in the back and foreground after. Your solution is the way to go.
