It seems that the season for getting out into some decent weather is upon us. I'd signed up to spend a week in Provence with Julian Merrow-Smith a great member of the daily painting fraternity. We were housed in a wonderful old property that had been a monastery in a former life. The place was set in wonderful countryside with acres of vines, mountains and old buildings. We were hosted by a wonderful couple, one a brilliant cook and the other an expert on Rhone wines. Suffice it to say we were fed and watered in royal fashion.
This post is to give a little introduction to the visit until I have enough time to do it a little more justice. The painting below is one of fifteen that I managed to get done during the week.

As already mentioned Mick, these are some wonderful little paintings. Julian is an inspiration. I had the pleasure of meeting Julian by chance in Venice last October, watched him finish a painting and then had a very enjoyable chat over an aperol spritz in Campo Santa Marguerita, whilst he waited for Ruth and Louis to join him for lunch.
I hope one day to book onto one of his workshops, in the meantime I can enjoy a little 7x5 painting of his on the wall in front of me as I type.

Colin - Thanks a lot, pleased you're enjoying them. You are right, Julian is an inspiration and a lot of fun as well. You no doubt gathered that from the time you spent with him in Venice. The whole experience the team provide on his courses really is a pleasure.
