Happy New Year to all my readers. I have managed spend a little time in front of the easel. I decided to mess around with composition and introduce something that required a little thought, so I moved the arrangement over a little and placed it on a tea towel. I'll let you judge whether these were interesting and/or ideas that worked.

Keep going Mick, the shapes are very good and the colour mixing is nice too all looks very realistic. The work is very small which sometimes is good so that you will be less afraid and more can be done in a short period of time. I think the idea of a painting a day is really good for practice and to learn a lot. Have you done anymore of your fab seascapes in oils lately? looking forward to seeing more work here soon.
Mick, you are back to your old form and now even better. Great colour and good composition. What about watercolour?
Good move Mick. A lot of progress can be seen between when you began. Keep going!
Caroline - Thanks for your very kind words. I was thinking of trying a few small coast pictures as a variation to the still life theme. I have lots of sketches and photographs to work from. Watch this space.
Ray - Thanks, it's good to be painting a little more often. At the moment I'm having fun with the oils so it might be a week or two before I dip into the watercolours.
Linda - Once again, thanks for the encouragement.
Very interesting composition that keeps my eye looking - nothing centered but just a bit off (in the best possible way). I really like that lemony color you're working on, too - almost can taste the bite of the lemon. Really nice way to start the year.
Rhonda - Thanks a lot. I've been messing about with different arrangements in the hope of not being too predictable. I'm enjoying this little spell of still life.
