Back to miserable weather and the outdoor projects are on hold till it improves. Sitting thinking about alternative painting tasks I noticed and advert on the television for a programme about watercolours presented by Sheila Hancock and as with many art programmes on TV there was the inevitable shot from Venice. That provided the answer to my little query, 'What next?'. I dug out my Venice photographs and sketches and the watercolour box and got down to a quick sketch. It's not the greatest but gave me the chance to create a glazed sky and the lovely silhouette of Santa Maria del Salute. Lots of fun.

Mick, I like the subtle blend of colours in this one. I have never been to Venice, but it sounds like a painters dream place to paint.
Maggie - Thanks for your comment. The colours used were a simple reduced palette, Ultramarine, Alizarin Crimson, Yellow Ochre and Burnt Sienna.
You should definitely put Venice on the list of your things to do. It is so different to anything else you can experience. Every corner you turn presents you with something new that is pictorially fascinating and the light is sublime.
I like it too, Mick. Very subtle and beautiful.
good handling of close values mick, never easy but give a good mood if succesful
Mary - Thanks a lot. There are times when simple is best.
Rob - Thank you. Doing this exercise has given me food for thought about future projects in both watercolour and oil.
Hi Mick,
Weve had days of rain and it's still soggy outside and more rain to come. Can get depressing! haha. Nice work on this one...I really like how you've handled the water and reflections. The painting has a good tone to it...a mood to relax after along day of sightseeing. Well done Mick.
Ron - Thanks for your interest and kind comment.
Beautiful painting Mick, you have captured the light perfectly.
Caroline - Thanks a lot
